Figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed 59 per cent of a net increase in migration to Australia was made up of those aged between 15 and 34。
Only three per cent were aged 50 or older.

Migrants arriving in 2006-07 had a median age of 27， and for people heading abroad it was 29.

The most common country of birth for arrivals was China ， while there was a net loss of 22，700 Australian-born people going overseas。
Overall， net overseas migration added 177，600 to the population.

Forty-five per cent of people who moved interstate in the same 12-month period were aged 15-34.

The median age for interstate migrants was 28.

Over-50s accounted for 15 per cent of the 158，500 people choosing a new state in which to live.
